Cruelty Free Make-Up | Covergirl pulls out of China

Easy, breezy, beautiful… Covergirl is now Cruelty-Free!

Earlier this month, Covergirl announced that they would be pulling their stock out of China and for good reason. The world-renowned brand is now the largest makeup brand ever to achieve the Cruelty-Free International Leaping Bunny certification thanks to this long-awaited decision.

“Consumers expect brands to be leaders for positive change so today COVERGIRL is taking a stand about making cruelty free cosmetics a mainstream reality. We know we are not alone in wanting a beauty industry that is free from animal cruelty and, working with Cruelty Free International, invite others to join us in turning these conversations into action,” – Ukonwa Ojo, Chief Marketing Officer, Coty Consumer Beauty

It is important to note that Covergirl itself did not test products or ingredients on animals, and neither did its suppliers, even prior to the cruelty-free certification. The only obstacle to this status was their presence in China and testing on animals where required by law (i.e. China)

Our Leaping Bunny certification means we’re certified Cruelty Free across all our products, everywhere we’re sold. But we want this to be bigger than us. We are what we make up—makeup wearers and makeup makers alike—so we’re inviting all other makeup brands to begin the process of becoming certified. Let’s go Cruelty Free together. – Covergirl

Way to go Covergirl!

Now we just need China to stop the use of animal testing as a requirement so that we can do away with all animal testing worldwide.
